Carlotta Cardana

Updated: Apr 19, 2022

Carlotta Cardana gave us a talk about her practice back in February, she spoke to us about how her practice has developed from being a theatrical graduate to doing a master’s in photography. During her time being a photographer, she has worked on numerous magazines as commissioned portrait, travel and interior photographer. Carlotta’s practice is based around commercial and editorial and has worked across Europe, on multiple different projects. After showing us her work, she gave us tips of how we can develop ours to get where we want with our practice.

Some of the main advice that she gave us was that it will be crucial to take on jobs that we may not necessarily want. Taking this route will help us with our practice, but also help us to get our name known into the photography community/industry. (it’s also a form of income) Carlotta mentioned that while taking on projects, that working in a freelance capacity, can also help us continue photographing the subjects that we love. This advice that she gave us, helped me think about how that the possibility of finding a job will not happen straight within the creative industry. Having another creative show us her views on how her work took a while to become more well-known within the industry, makes me feel more at ease with my own possibilities in the future. Additionally, as young photographers, it is going to take a while to be able to get our foot in the industry, we need to have a good amount of patience being a successful photographer.
