Pression Printing

Ian Cavanagh from Pressision came to talk to us about different types of prints and books that they have produced in the past. He came in and spoke to us in detail about how sending work off to print has a lot of different requirements that need to be met for the printers.

He mentioned that you always need to be transparent with the printers about cost and budget throughout and make it clear that the beginning. He also suggested that costs can rise more the less jobs that you complete for the printer.

The advice that he gave us was:

  • Folding/foiling - look up names of binding.

  • InDesign - tell the printer any jobs that you haven’t done.

  • Billing and shipping/packing instructions.

  • Specs usually change when sent off for printing, ask to see those changes, whether price or Spec of design.

  • Mistakes can be costly!

I learned a lot from Ian, as he is a specialist in printing. There were some aspects that surprised me about cost, but he was transparent with us so that we didn’t have a shock when it comes to times of printing after university. Ian presented us with loads of different paper choices, with different finishes, helping us understand all of the options available.
