Sequencing

Updated: Apr 20, 2022

How is the work presented?

When looking at ideas surrounding sequencing both my book work and presenting for my final exhibition, it has come across in repeated conversations and analysis, that the work does not form a sequence. It has been suggested to me that outside viewers view and understand the work, without having the pressure of a confined sequence. After multiple different pairings of the imagery, I have found that from this visual, while there are good natural pairings of the work, there is no narrative to the work, nor should there be one.

While there will be a sequence to the book, as there has to be one for it to be a functioning book, the images have been chosen for a tonality benefit, so that they would cohesively match and be easier on the eye. Additionally, there has been some input from my graphic designer, as he has been helping me with the visuals of the book, over storytelling through the images. When presenting the work, the images will be in a range of sizes, so the audience will engage with each image differently, they will also be presented in more of a sporadic way, giving the viewer time to move to each different image. Furthermore, an element of interactivity will be introduced when presenting at the final exhibition, as this then solidifies the no narrative aspect of the work.
