Textbook Studios

A few weeks ago on the 9th of February, we were lucky to have a talk presented by graphic designer, Victoria Carr from textbook studios. Textbook studios are primarily designers and educators who focus on graphic design and the cultures around that. They maintain their practice around social and ecological factors and work with their clients in this manner when they are producing items such as publications, web designs and different types of social media branding. The clientele is predominantly commercial, with one of their clients being cloud water brew co.

Victoria and her team are also the publishers who design the catalogue and website for the final year exhibition, we will be working collaboratively with Victoria for the design of the catalogue for our final year publication.

The advice that Victoria gave us, was to look for more freelance opportunities before graduating, getting in front in the creative industry can always help, by getting your name known to more to industry employers. Alongside this working as a self-employed photographer could also be the start of a great career, this is how Victoria started hers and it is also great to see another creative do so well out being self-employed. Taking back from the session about what Victoria had said about future employment got me thinking about how using my skills that I have learnt through my BA will help with future employments. Also, she made sure that we were creating and sending out work produced that we would like to see in different types of publications. This is an important factor to keep you interested and engaged in your own work for future photographic projects and commissions.
